Biomechanical Assessment & Consultation

Your first visit is a biomechanical assessment that takes about 45 minutes and includes: history regarding your area of concern, examination of foot and lower limb function, review of your current footwear, and evaluation of your gait. Once Judy or Jon have completed your biomechanical assessment, they will be able to provide you with recommendations for footwear, education regarding your foot condition, and suggestions for basic exercises or activity modification to help you on the road to recovery.

Custom Orthotics

Custom Foot Orthotics are orthopaedic appliances that fit inside a shoe and are used to alleviate pain, redistribute pressures, support and improve function of the foot and lower limb. In designing your custom orthotics, we will choose materials based on your foot condition and foot function as well as consider the demands of your lifestyle, the type of your activities and your footwear choices. Often custom orthotics can be moved from one shoe to another, if shoes are not dramatically different in style and fit.

Footwear Modifications

Footwear Modifications are custom alterations to off-the-shelf (available in stores) footwear to achieve improved function and comfort. Examples are lifts, rocker soles, sole widening, wedging, and buttressing. Jon is skilled at making modifications blend into the look of the original shoe. Can you spot the lift on this shoe?

Measuring for medical compression stockings

Medical Compression Stockings

Graduated compression stockings act to help muscle to gently squeeze stretched vein walls. Compression stockings can be used to treat tired legs, late day swelling, and as for prevention for travel, while pregnant or if you stand or sit for long periods of time. Higher compression is termed medical compression and is used in advanced or higher risk conditions. These are prescribed by a physician and include both a diagnosis and level of compression required. Measurement is key to getting an effective and comfortable stocking. At Pedorthics London, we are able to measure and fit both Medical Compression Stockings and OTC stockings. In today’s market there are many more options available in colour and material. We can provide choices from different suppliers and help you find a stocking that fits your lifestyle as well as your prescription.

Running Assessments

Running and walking put different demands on your feet and lower limbs. As a runner, you may be a rearfoot, a midfoot, or a forefoot striker. This will look different than your strike pattern while walking. If you are a runner and experience symptoms while running but not walking, evaluating your running style can help determine whether your foot mechanics are a contributing factor.
